Ashampoo Undeleter 1.11

When you delete files in Windows, they’re not actually erased. Instead, the data contained in them are kept on the disk until they are overwritten. Ashampoo Undeleter takes advantage of this to recover deleted files. The program supports not only hard disk drives but virtually any type of storage device. Likewise, it is compatible with FAT and NTFS file systems, even when an NTFS partition has been encrypted or compressed.

The program is very easy to use. In fact, its workflow can be organized into three basic steps: searching, viewing results and recovering files. I was really surprised with the speed of the search, which contrasts with the long waiting times of other similar programs. To accelerate this process, you can set the program to filter out unrecoverable files or those that contain no data. The results of the search include not only file names but also their size and current status (good, lost or somewhere in between them). However, it doesn’t provide enough filters to allow organizing the results according to file types. Finally, in order to recover data, you simply need to select the desired files with the option of keeping the original folder structure.

In general, Ashampoo Undeleter was very effective at doing its job. It is good to know that, although the application wasn’t specifically developed to support Windows 10, it worked excellently on my computer, which uses that operating system. One lesson to learn: standard deletion is not secure enough for very sensitive files, so you should use a file shredder instead. But that’s another story.
